My girls love art projects. It seems like we have at least one art project going on every day in our homeschool. Whether they are learning how to draw from watching YouTube videos, or building their favorite Pokemon characters out of play-doh, my kitchen table is always filled with some kind of art project.
When I was given the opportunity to review the IDO3D Vertical 3D Pen, I knew my girls would be excited!

ID03D Vertical 3D Pen
The IDO3D Vertical 3D Pen is a world-wide popular 3d drawing pen. The safe, heat-free polymer ink makes it possible for kids to bring their artwork to life in a 3 dimensional way.
Since the pen is not filament based it is completely safe for kids ages 8 and up. There are no hot electrical parts, only a cool LED-light that can be easily moved from pen to pen
Each pen comes with the following:
- Three 3D drawing pens (gree, yellow, and red)
- One 3D pen light
- One 1 guide map
- One 1 plastic sheet
- Two 3D Building Accessories
- Three LR44 Batteries
If you run out of ink, it’s no problem. You can purchase affordable ink refills at www.ido3dart.com.
How Does the IDO3D Vertical Pen Work?
With the IDO3D Vertical pen kids can easily create 3D works of art by drawing straight into the air or on a flat surface. Simply attached the LED light to the colored pen of your choice, and squeeze the ink out as you draw.
The attached LED light solidifies the ink as you draw, helping your kids create their art in thin air. If you don’t have much luck with drawing vertically, you can draw on a flat surface, and then use the ink to connect the pieces to construct your 3D art.
When you are finished, the pen and your work surface can be easily wiped down with baby wipes and regular household cleansers making clean up a breeze.
How We Use the ID03D Pen in Our Homeschool
Like all art mediums, it takes practice and patience to master this tool. I knew that creating amazing products like the commercial shows wouldn’t happen automatically.
Luckily they have free self-paced online courses that teaches how to use the 3D pen starting with the basics. We decided to start at the beginning with the tips and tricks video, and moved on to the beginners project – creating a simple 3D cube.

Final Thoughts
We enjoyed using this product because it was different than anything we had ever tried before. By working from the table up, it challenged my girls to think outside the box a little. My girls were also expanding their critical thinking and problem solving skills as they learned how to mold their creations together using the ink.
I also loved the lessons that were included, so the kids were actually learning how to use the tool instead of playing with it and hoping they would figure it out on their own. By being taught the basics with the videos, they were able to build their knowledge of how to use the pen to create more advanced projects every time they used it.
This 3D pen is a fun toy that also serves an educational purpose as well. My favorite benefit is that my kids were learning and expanding their creative skills without even knowing it. To them, they were just playing and having fun.
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone. Its a perfect product for a fun art lesson in your homeschool, or for a fun art project to work on during free time.

3D art is super fun, but it can be challenging. I appreciate all of those free courses that teach kids how to use the pens. That’s super helpful!
