This year we are using Essentials in Writing for the first time as our grammar/writing curriculum. We love this curriculum, but sometimes my girls need a little extra practice on some of the lessons.
Free Types of Sentences Printable
One of the topics my girls needed to spend a little more time on was sentence types. They had a hard time remember what declarative, interrogative, and exclamatory sentences are and how to distinguish between the three of them.
I could have scoured Pinterest for something to help me, but sometimes that can be hit or miss when you’re looking for something specific. So instead I spent that time putting together this printable.
At the top of the worksheet, there is a short and to-the-point description of each sentence type. Your child can then label each sentence with either interrogative, declarative, and explanatory. It doesn’t get any easier than that!
It’s nothing fancy by any means. It’s in black and white and doesn’t have any pictures, but it was exactly what I needed at this time. It helped solidify the lesson into my girl’s brains, which is what I was going for.
I know there may be others out there who could use something like this as well so I’d love to share this printable with you!

These printables were kid tested on my own kids and they seemed to work just the way I hoped they would.
If you choose to use this with your children I’d love if you could come back and give me some feedback in the comments below.
I hope it helps your child get in some extra practice in remembering these sentence types.
