My ladies and I are a family full of art lovers. There’s always something creative going on here whether it’s practicing how to free-hand draw a favorite Pokemon character, working in an art journal or junk journal, or constructing some sort of cardboard vehicles for stuffed animals out of recycled boxes.
My favorite form of art, though, is mixed media, and I knew I wanted to do some kind of class or workshop in our homeschool. That’s why I was so excited when Alisha Gratehouse announced her Springtime Splendor Mixed Media Workshop!
*Disclaimer: I received free access to this course in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to give a positive review. As always, my opinions are 100% authentic. You know me, always keepin’ it real!
Springtime Splendor Mixed Media Workshop Review
If you haven’t been following Alisha already, then you definitely need to take some time to check out her site. She has a ton of great content to offer her readers. Alisha is an awesome mixed media artist too, and she created a fantastic springtime themed workshop.
Springtime Splendor Mixed Media Workshop is an art course for kids ages 8 and up, but is also just as fun for mom and dad too!. Even though Lil’ Sis is only 5, she was able to easily complete the projects (but did need a little help from mom and big sisters).
The course is spread out over a 4 week period, but you could stretch that even further if you really wanted to, depending on how often you work on the projects.
There is a total of 20 different art projects with video instruction that explore the following various art forms, plus more:
- Sketching
- Acrylic painting
- Watercolor painting
- Chalkboard art
- Collage art
- Sculpting
- Hand lettering
- Art journaling
Since Alisha is also a homeschool mom, she has mixed in a bit of poetry and nature study as well, making this a perfect fit for our homeschool art class this spring.
Springtime Splendor Mixed Media for Homeschool Art
Instead of cramming the entire course into one month, we decided to spread it out a little and do one to two projects per week, instead of one each day. This worked out beautifully for our super busy lifestyle.

Sometimes I worked on the art projects right alongside the girls. Others times, I let them watch the instructional videos on their own to see how well they could follow the directions without my help. I loved that they could work on the art projects independently!

If I skipped out on completing a project with them, I would wait until they went to sleep for the night, and work on it by myself in glorious peace and quiet.
Who Can Benefit from Springtime Splendor?
If you are a homeschool mom looking for a fun art course to work on this spring (or anytime really), I highly recommend this course. It’s fun, laid back, and really introduces kids to various different art forms.
Alisha does a great job at teaching about the different products she’s using, and how to achieve different effects using the various art mediums.
What I really enjoyed about Springtime Splendor, is that even though it’s geared towards kids, truly anyone would enjoy this class.
I found myself often working through the projects on my own for a little art therapy time after a long and stressful day. Her soothing voice on her videos sets the mood for a calming experience.

This is awesome! My 5 year old girl loves art… and enjoys creating it. She experiments with a bit of mixed media too – all genius ideas she comes up with herself. Your daughter’s canvas bee art looks amazing! I’ll have to look further into this. Sounds like so much fun…Even for me as a mom. Thank you for sharing!
It’s a perfect night time project after the kids are asleep.. pour a cup of wine, do the project yourself, and if you’re a homeschool mom you can call it lesson planning! 😉 That’s what I like to do!
I love seeing people encouraging the creative. We just don’t have enough of that in this world.
I agree, the world needs more creativity!
This looks like so much fun. My daughter loves to draw she might like this. Thanks for sharing.
We love Alicia’s art classes! Right now my daughter and I are starting the “You are a Masterpiece” series, and it looks wonderful!
My little artist would love this! I’m not creative enough to teach her myself, so we will definitely need to try one of Alicia’s courses over the summer. 🙂
I highly recommend them! It’s a perfect “summer school” type of class 🙂
I’ve never heard of these before, but I will look into them for when my toddler is just a little older. I can see this as a good daddy and daughter activity!
Yes definitely!
This looks fun. My daughter isn’t homeschooled and she’s the budding artist. I went to Alisha’s site and it looks like there are a couple of great kits she would enjoy. Maybe a fun summer project. Thank you for linking up at #FindingJoy
