This week was full of field trips and playing catch up in between. While I absolutely love the field trips, I’m not a fan of the chaos that forms the rest of the week. If I could schedule every field trip on our Friday Funday’s I absolutely would!
Last Week in Our Homeschool
This weeks first field trip was to the St. Louis History Museum for the first homeschool day of the year. We have been to the History Museum before, and the kids named it their favorite museum so far in the city. We knew we had to start making appearances at their monthly homeschool day.
This field trip was fantastic!
We sat through a class that taught the kids how to vote like Aldermen in the city for important issues. Together with the other kids, they voted on real issues that have been presented to the cities actual Aldermen. It was a great learning experience!
They also had a fellow homeschool mom and her daughter put on a fun music class, where they played drums and learned about colors of the rainbows and how they make you feel through dance. The kids had a blast with this!
Of course no field trip is complete without some crafts! The girls hand prints contributed to this beauty that will be hung somewhere in the museum!
They also learned how to do blind contour drawings and ended up with some pretty funny images!
The rest of the week was full of the normal. We studied the explorations of Christopher Columbus and Amerigo Vespucci, and even created Lego replicas of the Santa Maria.
We also learned about some of the differences between salt water and fresh water in our science lessons.
Saturday marked the first public scrimmage of the St. Louis Blues and since the hubsterdude bleeds blue (which around here means he’s a die hard fan), he took the girls to watch. They learned about the game of hockey, and about how the NHL operates. Not sure who had more fun here, daddy or his girls! (Actually, maybe I did since I had 4 blissful hours of peace and quiet since I had the house to myself!)

We took a field trip last week, too! That’s neat that your history museum offers such a great program for homeschooling families! Have a great week!

Field Trips are the best! I try to go on a ton in the fall that way I’m so tired I don’t even care how cold and dead it is outside in the winter. I’m starting to feel the tiredness seeping in. So, I guess winter is coming soon then, right? lol!
We did a field trip too last week, but it was actually outside in the woods. The girls look like they had so much fun!! Love it!
