We have another great week of the Homeschool Nook Link Up Party for you, where bloggers all over the internet come to share their latest and greatest homeschool related posts. It’s always fun to see how others are learning in their homeschool, so make sure you stick around and get inspired! First, we’d love to share about how we spend the last week in our own homeschool!
First let me just say, “Happy Fall Y’all”! Missouri weather can be so crazy sometimes. One day its in the 90’s and you’re sweating to death. The next, it’s a crisp fall day and you’re pulling out the hoodies and jackets. Hopefully you are all embracing the cooler temperatures and getting as many bonfires in as possible!
Last Week in Our Homeschool
Last week we had a lot of fun in our homeschool! We spent most of our week doing our regular work, and then finished the week off with another field trip.
(Please excuse the mess. Our kids were making memories!)
Before we get to have our fun, I make sure the book work gets done. Sometimes that means wrapping up some loose ends with some car-schoooling going to and from field trips and other engagements.
In science we studied the difference between salt water and fresh water. This experiment showed us how salt slows down the rate at which water can freeze. The pic isn’t great, but we were observing and comparing the differences between ice cubes with salt or sugar poured on top of them.
We also spent some time in the kitchen learning how to make pancakes for breakfast (purple pancakes per lil’ sis request) and a Mississippi Mud Pie since we studied the state of Mississippi the week before.
Lil Sis spent some time working on her letter sounds as she prepares to learn to read. It’s almost time!
For our field trip, we visited a pumpkin patch where we all made new homeschool friends. There’s nothing better than meeting new friends (both mom, and kids!).
We started our day by playing in a tub of corn kernels, bowling with pumpkins, and climbing on haystacks. We even got to pet some baby goats which was super fun!
Then we got to go on a hayride to pick out our pumpkins. The girls even learned a little about the life cycle of pumpkins.
We finished off the day by getting lost in a corn maze. Okay, we didn’t get lost, but I always have a fear that we will! The girls had a blast!

I love your experiment this week; when I nannied, those kids loved experiments like these! Was the difference between salt and sugar quick enough that you think it’d keep the attention of my 3 year old who has no attention span?
I remember my favorite similar experiment from elementary school. Here we have a place called HORIZONS. My favorite part of horizons was entering their planetarium. But, another portion of that field trip was taste testing, smelling, feeling, and making predictions about baking soda, sugar, salt, and flour! Trying to guess with our senses which was which đŸ™‚

Now THAT sounds like a fun trip! It reminds me of a field trip I went on as a junior in high school. We visited the Coca Cola museum and tasted different types of soda that they make all over the world. Some of it was really nasty! I love field trips!
Oh, also, the whole experiment took maybe 5 mins tops. We put the salt/sugar on the ice.. walked away for a couple of minutes, and then came back to observe. Then as I talked about what was happening the kids watched as it melted more and started to break down. It was a really cool experiment!
We have (supposedly) an amazing pumpkin patch near here (but only the one, since it takes SO much work to create it here in FL), but we can never go because it would cost $60 for the 3 of us!! It does always look like so much fun, though. Can’t wait to see what you all do this week!

OUCH! That’s a pricey pumpkin! Maybe you should do a fall trip to Missouri! Lol! We always find the patches that are free to get in, and you just pay for whatever pumpkin you pick. That’s my kind of patch đŸ˜‰
I would really love to try out a corn maze…the closest we’ve done is a hay bale maze which was tons of fun.

They make me nervous! I’m always afraid I’ll get lost and have to go to the bathroom or something. Ha! It would so be my luck!
Sounds like a great week! Our weather has been crazy here too! After a week of freezing with sweatshirts and pants I finally packed away our tank tops and short sleeves; so of course it was in the mid 70’s today!

It’s supposed to get into the 90s here this week. This is October, right? I’m starting to wonder!
