One of the problems I have with public schools is that they treat education as if it should fit within a one-size-fits-all, type of box. That was the biggest struggle I had when I first started homeschooling. I felt like unless I was pouring over textbooks and having my kids write all of their answers on paper, then I wasn’t giving my kids a good, solid education.
Throughout the past 5 years I’ve spent homeschooling, I’ve slowly but surely started to learn that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all curriculum for homeschooling. I’ve also little by little figured out how absolutely everything you do can be educational in one way or another. It’s all about thinking outside of the box and getting creative with the lessons.
When I sat down to write one post about the many ways one can homeschool outside of the standard textbooks and boxed curriculum, I realized there was a lot more to talk about than I initially realized. I decided that instead of writing just one big post, I’d break it up into a series of posts and share these ideas with you a little at a time.
Learning Outside the Box Series
Finding new ways to incorporate learning into our daily lives in new “outside the box” ways has almost become a new and fun game for me. Every time my girls ask to do something for fun I ask myself, “How can I turn this into a learning experience?”. It’s taught me how to expand my own thought process and ultimately find some beauty within otherwise mundane projects.
This series will consist of at least 5 posts that will explain how homeschoolers can find and teach quality lessons when and where they would least expect. I cannot wait to begin sharing! Stay tuned as the series begins next week!
